The Nissan Sylphy sedan uses the Japanese automaker’s B platform and was originally designed only for the domestic market. The current generation dates back to the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show. This is a compact car designed to offer lots of interior space and luggage room. It has the most spacious interior space, almost matching the bigger Camry in legroom.

In 2008, Nissan made it into a global product, as it went on sale in China and other countries in South East Asia, and even Russia.

Now, they’ve given the Sylphy a new look, following the same sort of design language used by the Altima in America.

“Nissan developed a one-class-above solution that exceeds customers’ expectations – retaining the popular features of the current model while upgrading design, perceived quality, roominess and performance. In fact, Nissan has virtually re-imagined the category, delivering high quality styling outside and spacious, quiet comfort inside with the latest “smart” amenities, plus remarkable fuel efficiency,” Nissan says in a press statement.

The new Sylphy offers a lowered stance, fresh grille design, LED bordered headlamps, a sharply angled trunk lid.

Instead of the usual 1.5-liter Tiida/Versa engine or the new MR20DE 2.0 L engine, the new Sylphy only uses the 1.8-liter for its economy. This is to be paired with a next-generation XTRONIC CVT.

Nissan says it will become available later this year and by 2014, about 120 markets will offer this B-segment car.
